Do I need structural engineering for a shed, garage, carport or Class 10 building?
Structural documentation may be requested for a new non-habitable building such as a private garage, carport, shed, awning, patio, pergola or cabana. The exact approval and documentation requirements depend on the project, site and relevant authority.

When structural documentation is commonly requested
A certifier, building designer, builder or supplier may ask for engineering when the proposed structure needs a documented load path, member sizes, connections, bracing, tie-down, slabs or footings. Site conditions, wind exposure, unusual geometry and the chosen construction system can also affect what is needed.

When QuickFrame10 may fit
QuickFrame10 is a prepaid pathway for suitable ordinary-use, non-habitable Class 10 buildings that can be designed as a structurally freestanding system. The new structure may touch or be weatherproofed to an existing building while keeping its own support, stability, bracing and tie-down.
The outer roof boundary is rectangular, with a roof plan area (overall length × width) limited to 50 m². The wall and column footprint can be non-rectangular. The configurator supports simple offset columns, straight corner walls, returns and openings, with monoslope or hip/gable roofs, sheet or tile roofing, and no parapets, three-sided parapets or four-sided parapets.
The online plan records the preferred starting arrangement. The four editable corner locations are a simple starting point. Engineering may resize or relocate the elements shown and add intermediate supports, framing, bracing, connections, slab thickenings or footings where required.

Projects suited to a separate scope
QuickFrame10 suits ordinary-use, structurally freestanding NCC Class 10 buildings that can be represented in the configurator. Habitable or mixed-use building work, structural reliance on an existing building, assessment or certification of existing work, demolition design, retaining structures and unusual structural loads use a separately quoted scope.
Use the fee proposal form for a project-specific scope when the proposed rectangular roof or starting wall and column layout needs more flexibility than the configurator provides.
Wind certificate or complete design?
QuickWind provides a standalone AS4055 site wind classification certificate for suitable projects. QuickFrame10 considers the applicable wind basis as one input to the complete structural design. See the document selection guide if the request is unclear.
